Typical examples of the former include proverbs with fixed forms and meanings, such as Isogaba maware (More haste, less speed.), Son shite toku tore (Lose a dime and win a dollar.), and Makeru ga kachi (Sometimes defeat means victory.). In contrast, the latter type of oxymoron conveys a creative meaning and its interpretation is highly context dependent. In this paper, we will examine both types of oxymorons based on Relevance Theory (Sperber and Wilson 1995), comparing their interpretation processes in terms of decoding and the inferential process of ad hoc concept construction.

which serves as the foundation for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the United Nations. To ascertain whether participation in the game has an educational effect while fostering interest in sustainable development, this study examined whether engagement with the game may contribute to this effect. The post-game free-response statements of participants were obtained, and the degree to which their statements related to "sustainable development" was compared with those of the referent group (who did not participate in the game). It was hypothesized that participants in the game would produce a greater number of relevant statements and that its amount would be heightened due to their interest in the concept. A greater proportion of the free-response statements collected from participants in the SIMINSOC games (62 students) were related to "sustainable development" than those obtained from the referent group (16 students). Furthermore, the volume of these statements tended to be greater in the former than the latter group. Morphological analysis revealed that many of the former descriptions contained words related to development, environment, sustainability, and so on.

The improved Shinkansen was more effective when the entire line was opened than when part of it was opened. The result of this paper quantitatively analyzed the validity for the improvement plan execution of the projected Shinkansen lines, and it presents the important material for the improvement plan of future undeveloped section.
