Since the hemp palm branch has unusually large leaves and a relatively slender branch stem as compared with other trees, the branches must be subjected a large bending moment. A triangular cross section must be a solution for that problem, which can reduce the induced stress about 30% under a bending stress. Furthermore, the branch is a composite material reinforced by strong fibers. It also constructs a functionally graded structure on fiber distribution. This structure provides a higher strength in the critical loded region than the induced stress there.

were obtained under a viscous-shock-layer analysis. To protect the probe against high temperature condition and to reduce the heat flux, which includes convectional and radiative heat transfer, we used the ablation of C/C composite materials. This simulation included mass injection, radiative transfer, diffusion, and viscous effects. The radiations included were molecular bands, atomic lines, and continuum processes. It was found that carbon ablation materials were effective in reducing the radiative heat flux.

This implies that the rotor shaft and the case of motor are excited electromagnetic forces with high frequency components. Since high frequency noises are loud when they are input to human ears, so that when high frequency vibrations are suppressed, noises become small. From the situation, this paper discusses a method of noise reduction of Dc Motor. In the method, the current waves are controlled to be sinusoidal waves. The method and the control algorithm are given. In order to validate the method, experimental tests are carried out. It is proven that our method is applicable to the motor noise control.

than the self-ignition temperature of a kerosene spray. Flame shape and temperature distribution were measured to characterize the spray combustion appeared in the hot air stream. Flow state around the spray was visualized by a Schlieren method to analyze the behavior of the air entrainment into the flame. Furthermore, Mie scattering from the spray droplets by irradiation of the laser beam was observed to visualize the spray concentration in a flame. As the result, ignition point was shifted to the upstream side with an increase of air temperature. When the air temperature became higher than 800 K, the blue flame appeared at the bottom portion of the flame. Penetration of the spray became shorter with an increase of air temperature. Spatial distribution of the spray which were not vaporized in a flame was strongly affected by the air temperature.

cutting. A plasma torch had a nozzle of 0.7 mm in diameter and a discharge length of 2 to 10 mm, and was operated with an arc current of 10 to 30 A. Data from a CCD image processor and Mach-Zehnder interferometer were dealt with an Abel transformation to obtain true spacial profiles of electron density and temperature, and heavy particle temperature. Electron temperature in the main flow was found to be about 12 000 to 13 500 K, electron density of an order of 10^<16> cm^<-3>, both increasing with an arc current. It was also found that heavy particle temperature was significantly lower than electron temperature in the nozzle exit region and increased to coincide with electron temperature downstream. Experimental relation of electron temperature and density could be approximated well by that calculated from steady-state collisional and radiative processes.

shear strengths of them decrease with increasing temperature. The crack generally initiates at the upper and lower sides of the interface, a brazing filler. It grows into Al_2O_3 after stable growth and becomes unstable till 873 K (I C type fracture). The crack propagates along the interface till unstable fracture from 1 173 K (II type fracture). The crack behavior shows a mixed mode of I C and II types at 973 K and 1 073 K (IC+II type fracture). Larson Miller Parameter is valid for creep rapture tests under shear loading. The fracture modes are the I C type under the condition of low temperature and short time and the II type under the long-term condition.

etically. The emission was enhanced by dissolving a small amount of Xe gas into water, and its spacial pattern was taken by a chilled CCD camera and an image intensifier. A spectrum of cavitation emission was measured by a spectrometer with a photon counter. Based upon the collisional and radiative theory for plasmas and a two-temperature model, synthetic spectra were calculated for emission of a collapsing xenon bubble at the minimum radius. It was found that the light emission pulsated and was intense around the flow axis a little downstream of the orifice, and the experimental spectrum was predominated by continuum and its intensity distribution was very similar to the theoretical ones with electron temperature of about 12000 K to 14000 K. Mean emission energy per unit pulse was estimated experimentally to be smaller than 5×10^<-9> μJ/nm・sr at the wavelength of 450 nm, which is consistent with the plasma conditions from the emission spectrum.

To suppress higher modes, the present article uses autotuning magnetic damper. It damps higher modes, but it also increase first modal vibration. Then a method of optimal auto tuning control is presented in which both principal and higher modal vibrations are suppressed. Experimental tests are carried out for a real milling machine, and cutting tests are also performed.

of the joint angle for the purpose of the reduction control of residual vibrations of the flexible robot arm is derived by use of the initial and final conditions of the flexural displacement of the flexible link and the constraint conditions of the desired signal of the joint angle during the acceleration and deceleration terms as well as the linearized equation of motion of the flexible robot arm. The rotation control system of the flexible robot arm is constructed with the desired signal planning for the joint angle and the PD controller. Furthermore, the numerical simulations of the rotation control of the flexible robot arm have been carried out, and it is confirmed that the residual vibrations of the flexible robot arm can be effectively reduced by the present desired signal planning for the joint angle.

on the disaster consciousness of the inhabitant, and the disaster consciousness is formed by flood experience of the inhabitant himself, legend on the flood damage in the past and social education, etc.. In this study, we take notice of the decision making in the evacuation activity of the inhabitant, and analyse the effect of flood experience of the inhabitant on the disaster consciousness and the decision making process of the evacuation activity. Main conclusions are as follows. First, the atrophy of disaster consciousness delay the evacuation activity. The second, though the damage experience in the flood disaster enhances the disaster consciousness, the damage experience of the intermediate level delays the decision making and start timing of the evacuation activity.

e, narrow band KrF excimer laser was used to excite the A(ν'=3)←X(ν""=0) band of OH radical. An emission spectrum of the induced light from the flames was measured by a spectroscope. An OH fluorescence component was picked up from the emission spectrum in order to obtain the accurate distribution of OH fluorescence in the flames. We call this method for spectrum-LIF (S-LIF). The spectrum of the induced light from the diffusion flames was compared with that of the premixed flames. Although the spectrum had only OH fluorescence components in the case of premixed flames, high intensity emission from the yellow flame appeared on the LlF image in the case of diffusion flames. To remove the high intensity emission from the LIF image, off resonance image was deducted from the OH resonance image as the background image. Using this deduction method, a planer laser induced fluorescence (P-LIF) was tried to measure the distribution of OH fluorescence. OH fluorescence distribution measured by P-LIF was compared with that of S-LIF. As the result, the P-LIF image qualitatively agreed with the data of S-LIF.

high gravity field which level was changed from normal gravity (G=1) to G-20. In order to investigate the fuel density effect on flame structure at high gravity level, two kinds of fuels (methane and propanw) and further methane-propane mixture fuel whose density was equivalent to the surrounding air were used. As the results, flame length decreased with an increase of gravity level regardless of the positive and negative buoyancy effect between the fuel and surroundings. To investigate the gravity effect on flame structure, length of blue flame which appeared at anchor portion of the flame was measured under various gravity levels. It was confirmed that the blue flame was expanded with an increase of the gravity level. This result was explained by the enhancement of the air entrainment at the anchor portion of the flame. Evaluation of flame length which was obtained by Altenkirch considering the relationship of fuel and required oxygen were used to evaluate the experimental data of flame length under the various gravity level. From this method the following empirical correlation was proposed : L_f/γ_o=1.72Re^<0.667>Fγ^<0.0846>, where L_f is a flame length, γ_o is a nozzle radius, Re is the Reynolds number based on nozzle radius and Fγ is the Froude number.

ation for the bubble dynamics was coupled with the detailed collisional and radiative processes for xenon plasma to obtain plasma conditions in a bubble. A two-temperature model for electrons and heavy particles was adopted to estimate the luminescence property from a spherical bubble. For the conditions of initial bubble radius of 10 to 150 μm and pressure change of 200 to 800 kPa, the maximum electron temperature ranged from 5000 to 15000 K and electron number densities about 10^<17> to 10^<20> cm^<-3> at the minimum bubble radius. The plasma in a bubble was in thermally nonequilibrium state during the compression process, and generally the maximum electron temperature was significantly lower than the heavy particle one. The emission intensity from cavitation bubbles was sensitive to the change rate of pressure and the bubble radius.

is the procedure adding' features to a raw material and process planning is the procedure eliminating features from a product. We attempt to implement this feature eliminating procedure on computers. A shape model of a product consists of two parts; a basic-extruded-material and features. A basic extruded material model represents shape of a raw material. It is a plain surface model by polygonal faces. Feature models are surface models, too. But, they describe negative volume representing blanked parts of the product. The expert system attempts to eliminate features by eliminating faces of features on each face of basic material model. At first, the system chooses one face of basic material model, and collects features' faces on it. Then, it searches database, we call 'feature eliminating case base,' at each feature, and finds the blanking procedure which can eliminate, or make it. Repeating the above from the product to its raw material, the system gets process plans of blanking for the product.

he metallic glasses exhibit superplasticity, which suggests the possibilities of forming the metallic glasses into various intricate shapes. In this paper, formability of two types of Zr based metallic glass; Zr_<75>Cu_<19>Al_6 and Zr_<55>Cu_<30>Al_<10>Ni_5 (atomic%) are examined in the supercooled liquid state. The example metallic glasses showed superplasticity under compressire stress and high thermal stability in the supercooled liquid state. Furthermore, forming accuracy of the example metallic glasses was better than one micrometer. As the application of such precise forming, a concave mirror with a l0 mm diameter was formed. The profile error of the mirror was 0.5 μm and the surface roughness (Rmax), 90 nm. This superplastic forming of the Zr based metallic glasses is expected to be used for the production of various components of high precision and intricate shape.
